Description

Sunset-tinged clouds are reflected as a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) wades in the tributary at low tide near San Francisco Bay.
This elegant avian beauty is the largest heron in North America, with a height of up to 54 inches (138 cm) and a wingspan of up to 79 inches (201 cm). Adults weigh between 4 to 8 lbs. (1.82 to 3.6 kg.). Its habitat ranges from Alaska, Canada and the Pacific coast east to Florida and south to Mexico and South America.
As I walked on a footbridge, I paused mid-span over the tributary and spotted this majestic bird standing motionless, as if waiting to have its picture taken. The bird, low tide, sunset reflections and this vantage point came together in one magnificent, breathtaking moment of peace and tranquility.
I enhanced my original photo to give it a brush-stroke texture in this digital artwork.
"ADONAI, how countless are Your works! In wisdom You made them all - the earth is full of Your creatures." Psalm 104:24, TLV

Artwork notes:
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
