Description
A great egret (Ardea alba) prepares to land on a branch at a rookery nesting site in Santa Rosa, California.
This in-flight portrait was taken in the rain while holding an umbrella with one hand and camera in the other. Inclement weather does not deter these majestic birds, which were busy tending to their eggs in several nests high up in a eucalyptus tree over a busy neighborhood road during a misty April rainfall.
May this image be a majestic reminder for us all to be good stewards of God’s incredible creation through conservation and maintaining our yards free of chemical pesticides.

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
