Description

While in Southern California at the tail end of the spectacular 2019 Superbloom season, I toured areas where the jacaranda trees were blooming.

In this photographic portrait, they grace a boulevard in Pasadena, California, their stunning finery set majestically against the partially overcast sky.

From research, I learned that these showy trees are quite temperamental in their blooming times, which can vary widely by location, even street by street.

The branches in this uncropped image form strong lines, like bold and elegant sumi-e brush strokes which embellish the delicate floral treasures.
