LEMONS INTO LEMONADE:: On Valentine's evening 2016, rural California Highway 37 in the San Francisco Bay Area was a virtual parking lot with Sunday traffic backed up for miles.

So...... what is a photographer to do but stop at the nearest Vista Point and take photos of the gorgeous sunset Pappa God painted. :-)

This view with an HDR (high dynamic range) effect looks westward from Vallejo, California toward Sonoma County. A fitting conclusion to the day.

I waited for the right moment when the sunset colors were at their best. By the time this photo was taken, traffic had loosened considerably and was flowing at the regular speed.

When discussing this photo with Mom, I remarked that if it weren't for the massive backup, I would have missed out on this incredible sunset, one of the most gorgeous I've seen!

This episode reminds me of an important life lesson:: Look for the good in every situation. There is treasure and opportunity to be found in every one of life's circumstances.

A little bit about Valentine's Day:: This special day celebrating love is named in honor of St. Valentine, a Roman priest who lived in the third century A.D.

Against the backdrop of a very permissive society whereby polygamy was running rampant, Valentine performed secret marriages between one man and one woman, defying the orders of Roman Emperor Claudius the second, who prohibited marriage on the hypothesis that married soldiers might be afraid of what would happen to their families if they died on the battlefield.

While imprisoned and being tortured for his faith, Valentine, a follower of Jesus Christ, was said to have prayed for the daughter of Judge Asterius who was one of the judges assigned to his case. Asterius' daughter, who was blind, was miraculously healed with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became a Christian as a result.

In 269 A.D., Valentine was sentenced to execution for performing marriage ceremonies against the command of Emperor Claudius. Before his death, he wrote a letter to Asterius' daughter, signing it, "from your Valentine".
