GRATEFUL TO BE AN AMERICAN :: U.S. Flags surround a monument honoring Veterans in front of City Hall at Camarillo, California USA near Los Angeles.
This photo was taken during Memorial Day Weekend in May 2014. When I saw this tribute to our military heroes, my heart was filled with deep gratitude for the sacrifice and dedication of those who protect our exceptional country.
As has been aptly said, "All gave some, and some gave all."
Indeed, if it weren't for the grace of God and the brave men and women who serve our country, there would not be the America we know today which still has freedoms that many other nations don't have.
The inscription on the monument reads ::
"TO THE MEN AND WOMEN VETERANS OF CAMARILLO:
WHEN YOUR COUNTRY CALLED, YOU ANSWERED.
A GRATEFUL CITY REMEMBERS."
Embossed on the monument are the insignias of the branches of the US. Armed Forces (clockwise) :
United States Marine Corps
United States Army
United States Coast Guard
United States Air Force
United States Navy
In this photo, I have emphasized the colors of the fallen rose petals which I feel are a reminder of the tremendous sacrifice and contribution made by those who paid the ultimate price on the battlefield protecting our freedoms.
The Scripture that comes to mind is John 15:13 ::
"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." (NKJV)
