Amber reflections of the setting sun dance among the waves along the shoreline in San Francisco.

This photo was taken early evening during "golden hour" on the second day of Winter in December 2016 at Ocean Beach, which is near the Great Highway in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, looking toward the magnificent Pacific Ocean.

The onshore flow of ocean water from a breaking wave, called an "uprush swash" forms a beautiful pattern in this photo as two waves merge together.

If you look closely, a gull soars over the tumult of the ocean waves. A dog's paw prints grace the lower right of the photograph.

Although powerful rip currents make wading and swimming very dangerous and highly unadvisable at this beach, its beauty and magnificence are appreciated at a respectful distance, as in this photograph.

The fresh salty air and golden sunset beckon me to stay just a little while longer as I walk along the water's edge. The horizon stretches toward infinity and innumerable grains of sand cradle my steps. I am reminded of the ancient prophet Jeremiah who proclaimed these words during the sixth and seventh centuries B.C., which have trumpeted hope through the millennia::

"'For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,' says the Lord, 'plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.'" (Jeremiah 29:11, Amplified Bible)

Indeed, may we take heart and consider these words as nourishment to the soul during battle-weary days of challenge. As we stay close to God in prayer and reading His Word - His Love Letter to us - may we find strength and solitude to face the future with hope and confidence that our loving Savior and Messiah has our best interests at heart and wants only the best for each of us.

Artistic notes::

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ ב ס " ד ] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
