Description

A stunning winter sunset and light snowfall enhance the spectacular beauty of the Grand Canyon.

This view is from Lipan Point, considered one of the best vantage points along the southern rim of the canyon. God granted my wish to visit this magnificent landmark on my birthday in February 2016.

Located in northern Arizona, United States, the Grand Canyon is named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The park is immense, containing over 1.2 million acres of land measuring 1,904 square miles. The canyon itself is 277 river miles (446 km) in length, up to 18 miles (29 km) in width, and one vertical mile (1.6 km) in depth.

The land in and around the canyon is co-managed by the U.S. National Park Service and the Native American First Nations Peoples of the Havasupai Tribe, the Hopi Tribe, the Hualapai Tribe, and the Navajo Tribe.

During my high school days I had the special honor and joy of hiking down from the Canyon rim to the Colorado River and back in one day on the Bright Angel Trail. Many years later on my second visit (sans hike), I am reminded of a beloved Scripture on a plaque overlooking the canyon which I saw on my first visit to this magnificent landmark::

"Sing to God, sing praises to His name. Lift up a song for Him Who rides through the desert. His name is the LORD -- rejoice in His presence!" (Psalm 68:4)


Artwork notes::

The dramatic sunset burst seen in the upper left-hand is essentially how it came from the camera.

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
