While driving along California Highway 99 on my way to Merced National Wildlife Refuge to take photos of the sandhill cranes, I looked up and saw dozens of U.S. flags flying on an overpass near Turlock on a very windy day.
My heart warmed to see such support for America and patriotism. I took the next exit and headed back to the overpass where I met the friendly people from the California Valley Patriots who organized the patriotic display in honor of Presidents’ Day, on February 18th, 2019.
The photo I took shows a portion of the dozens of flags on display, including the 1775 Gadsden or “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, the POW flag, and the USA Thin Blue Line Flag honoring police. There were also flags in support of President Donald Trump.
The photo is uncropped and pretty much “as is”, the way I saw this display in person.
The California Valley Patriots are a group based in the central valley of California whose membership spreads across the country, numbering approximately 2,000.
The CVP’s Mission Statement on the back of their business card reads::
“We are a group of California patriots devoted to upholding our constitutional rights. We strive to promote good and just government at all levels by educating our fellow American families. We welcome all, as we unite together to protect our inalienable rights.”
According to an article in the Turlock [California] Journal (updated June 15, 2018), members of the California Valley Patriots were interviewed and they mentioned their group is “a very law-abiding group,” said the groups’ president, adding, “We work with the police. We’ve done security at the Capitol.”
In the article, it was mentioned a California Highway Patrol officer came by and gave his blessing on the flag display event.
According to the Turlock Journal article, “California Valley Patriots have done a number of community service projects, such as rounding up and delivering donations for victims of the summer of 2017 Detwiler Fire. They also took six vehicles filled with supplies and gave $1,000 to relief efforts during the Santa Rosa Fire. They also drove relief supplies to flood victims in Texas.”
Back to the photo of the flags:: No matter our political affiliation, may we honor and respect the Office of the Presidency and pray for our President and leaders in our nation and state, so that “we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.” (1 Timothy 2:1-3, NKJV)

Artwork notes:
This art image and others in my portfolio are available as museum-quality fine art prints, framed and unframed. Please kindly see the ordering options on this page.
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
