In honor of Flag Day in America, June 14th, and in celebration of the first anniversary of my joining Fine Art America (on June 14th, 2014), it is my pleasure and joy to present this photograph I took, circa 1992, of the U.S. Flag on my front porch. The original photo was taken with 35 mm still-picture color film, and has been enhanced to have a painterly quality with a canvas texture.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress, which is the Flag Act of 1777:: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation making June 14th officially as Flag Day. In 1949, an Act of Congress established National Flag Day.

The patriotic colors of the U.S. Flag hold great significance. According to the American Legion veterans service organization, custom and tradition tells us that red signifies hardiness and valor; white represents purity and innocence; and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice.

As we in America display our nation's flag on this day and indeed each and every day of the year, bringing honor and respect to the principles of liberty and justice which this flag represents, may we remember and pray for our brave men and women who have served and are serving valiantly to defend our country.

Let us daily give thanks to the Lord God Almighty Who made it all possible::
