Description
Rock-studded West Walker River forges a compelling ribbon amid golden quaking aspens (Poplus tremuloides) and soaring pines in one of the most stunning wilderness landscapes I’ve seen in person.
It was well worth the effort to arise before 4 a.m. and drive across California to see this magnificent spectacle of natural unspoiled beauty in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains bathed in the glorious autumn sunrise.
This photo was taken in October 2017, near the 7,000-foot elevation in the Humboldt-Toiyabe, the largest National Forest in the U.S. outside Alaska.
A great flood swept through the area during the winter of 1996-1997, washing away several miles of canyon roadways. I can only imagine this might have caused the river bank to erode, as seen toward the middle of the photograph.
The boulders and fallen tree remind me of life’s challenges and adversities. With the passage of time, these natural elements become part of the landscape and contribute to its magnificence.
Likewise, God the Creator of the universe demonstrates His love and faithfulness throughout life, even during the toughest, most challenging moments. We can experience residing peace when we place our trust in Him.
I am reminded of the reassuring passage in Romans 8:38-39, which says it best:
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NKJV)

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ ב ס " ד ] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
The "Fine Art America" watermark in the full resolution preview will not show in the final print/product purchased.
