ANCIENT JOPPA (JAFFA), ISRAEL :: This is one of my favorite photos I took while my family and I walked the quaint and beautiful winding passageways of this historic town located on the Mediterranean coast. It was in November 2009 right after a refreshing rainstorm which helped replenish Israel's water supply after three years of drought.
King Solomon, the Prophet Jonah and the Apostle Peter all had ties to this ancient Biblical port in one way or another.
Acts 10:1-48 recounts when Peter, a Jewish Apostle, received a supernatural vision while staying at Simon the Tanner's house in Joppa and was called to preach to Cornelius, a Roman centurion, who became the first Gentile convert to Christianity and thus marked a turning point in history when the Good News of Yeshua Jesus began to be shared with the Gentiles.
This was accompanied by the new followers of Jesus receiving the precious Ruach HaKodesh (Hebrew for the Holy Spirit), recorded in Acts 10:44-48, when they began praising God and speaking in various languages, a supernatural sign and wonder.
Joppa is one of the oldest port cities in the world, with nearly 4,000 years of history. If only the ancient stones could talk -- what stories they would tell! The streets and passageways of this historic city beckon you to explore.....
