Description
It's been said viewing the sunrise at Yaki Point is among the best at Grand Canyon. Going by that advice, I got up in the dark morning hour and braved near gale-force winter winds and sub-freezing temperature to witness one of the most spectacular landscapes bathed by the early dawn's light.
This photo was taken in early February 2016 along the south rim after a January snowfall. The trees were waving crazily while I tried to steady my tripod in the midst of the gusting wind.
Accessible by foot or shuttle bus, Yaki point, elevation 7,262 feet (2,213 meters) juts out over a wide swath of the Grand Canyon and offers some of the most awesome views.
From this vista point, one can take in breathtaking buttes and mesas. Visible are parts of the South Kaibab Trail and the Bright Angel Trail, the latter of which I have hiked during my high school days.
Located in northern Arizona, United States, the Grand Canyon is named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The park is immense, featuring over 1.2 million acres of land measuring 1,904 square miles. The canyon itself is 277 river miles (446 km) in length, up to 18 miles (29 km) in width, and one mile (1.6 km) in depth.
The land in and around the canyon is co-managed by the U.S. National Park Service and the Native American First Nations Peoples of the Havasupai Tribe, the Hualapai Tribe, the Navajo Tribe and the Hopi Tribe.
Seeing this amazing view reminds me of a beloved Scripture on a plaque overlooking the canyon which I saw on my first visit to this magnificent landmark::
"Sing to God, sing praises to His name. Lift up a song for Him Who rides through the desert. His name is the LORD. Rejoice in His presence!" (Psalm 68:4, paraphrased)

Artwork notes::
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
