Description
Vibrant bougainvilleas display their autumn glory in the afternoon sun. I spotted these beauties during a hike near Mill Valley, California.
The colorful “bracts” are actually modified leaves; the real flowers are the diminutive creamy ruffled “wheels” shown in the center of the bract sets.
Native to South America, bougainvilleas thrive in temperate climates, with over 300 cultivated varieties. I have seen them bloom profusely in my travels from California to Israel.
The red hues in this photo remind me of God’s protection represented in the lamb’s blood which the Israelites applied on the door posts to keep them safe from the death angel as it passed over their houses in Egypt (see Exodus 12). This was the first Passover, which foreshadowed the Ultimate Sacrificial Lamb, the Lord Messiah Yeshua Jesus, Who died on the Cross for my sins and gave me eternal life as I received that precious gift of eternal salvation.
As I was thinking about this photograph, I felt the Holy Spirit quicken to my heart the words for the title, “If Ever I Needed You”, referring to my risen Messiah, Lord, and soon returning King!
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16, Tree of Life Version (TLV)

Artwork notes:
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ ב ס " ד ] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
