This is my first time baking Kabocha (Japanese pumpkin) pie with a pecan topping for Thanksgiving 2014. It's gluten-free, eggless and dairy-free using organic ingredients.
It was baked in a glass pie container and is shown fresh out of the oven, cooling on the stovetop.
The home-made, hand-fashioned crust is made from scratch using gluten-free grains ground into flour in a food processor.
Home baking easily saved me one-half the cost of store-bought overall. And the taste and freshness cannot be beat. It is great fun trying new recipes and combinations.
The joy of home-cooking. Part of the slow-food revolution.

I doubt if a lot of the pecan pies that will be consumed this month will be gluten free, but many may look this good.
Brian Tada replied:
Hi Sharon, I understand your feelings. My naturopath doctor recommended a gluten-free diet, which I've tried to follow since 2009. This really made a difference in my health, haven't had a sick day in over a decade.
Brian Tada replied:
My doctor referred me to the book," Dangerous Grains: Why Gluten Cereal Grains May Be Hazardous To Your Health" by James Braly, M.D. It has handy lists of gluten-free grains to eat and the gluten ones to avoid. Highly recommended.

Debby Pueschel
Wow...I must eat gluten free and would LOVE to have this recipe! It looks delightful! FLP
Brian Tada replied:
Hi Debby, thank you for your wonderful comments! I've eaten gluten free diet at the recommendation of my naturopath doctor since ~Sept. 2009, right before my family's trip to Israel celebrating my parent's 50th Anniversary. Have eaten gluten free since, now for 10 YEARS! And... I feel SO MUCH better! A lot of people are gluten sensitive, so it's best to be tested for this. I believe you can look up the recipes online... I think I either used a Kabocha pie recipe, or, adapted a pumpkin pie recipe. I used gluten free crust recipe. Then the pecan topping, a separate recipe. All online. Blessings!
