Artist's Description
Beulah Chapel is located on the property of the historic Home of Peace in Oakland, California. Its beautiful exterior, roof and interior were built in 1894.
The Home of Peace property has served various functions. The main building, Montgomery House (across the parking lot from this Chapel) built in 1893 was the first home of healing on the West Coast and a lodging place for missionaries. During its 125+ year history, many notable missionaries and ministers of the Gospel have stayed on these sacred grounds, including evangelist Smith Wigglesworth and William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army.
Home of Peace was the vision of Mrs. Carrie Judd Montgomery, who experienced a dramatic healing miracle of God on February 26, 1879 in a small house in Buffalo, New York. She published her first book, The Prayer of Faith, which chronicled the powerful testimony of her divine healing.
