Description
Pictured in this photo is a closeup of a home-assembled salad I arranged featuring chopped/grated carrots, kale, lettuce, tomatoes, red cabbage, cauliflower, garbanzo beans, basil and homegrown chopped chives, and garnished with a mint leaf from my garden.
Salads with an assortment of vegetables are an ideal dietary component to a fast. Fasting not only helps to detoxify the body, but it also enhances communion with God our Creator.
Here are some Fasting Tips from my health presentations which I hope you find helpful:
Fasting is setting aside food and pleasures to seek God first and foremost.
Fasting is soul-searching with humility before God. (See Matthew 6:16-18.)
Over 90% of fasts mentioned in the Bible were done corporately. (Examples: Esther 4:13-17; Joel 1:14)
There are several types of fasts. Here are two examples:
Modified “Danie’s Fast” (abstaining from meats and sweets)
Fast from Social Media and/or News (use the time for prayer and being in God’s presence, see Hebrews 11:6, Matthew 6:33)
If you are on the Daniel’s Fast, eat a healthy diet emphasizing plenty of vegetables (raw and steamed) and drink filtered* water in plentiful amounts to flush your system of toxins and impurities.
Good rule of thumb for water intake: Take your body weight in pounds, divide by two and that is the approximate number of ounces of water to drink daily. Divide the ounces total by 8 to get the number of cups per day.
Salads: Nutritionists recommend eating the God-given “rainbow” of colors including:
RED (tomatoes, beets, red onions, radishes),
ORANGE & YELLOW (carrots, yellow peppers, yellow squash [organic to avoid GMOs]),
GREENS (raw: lettuce, spinach, kale [all organic to reduce pesticide exposure], steamed: broccoli, beans, brussels sprouts, etc.)
PURPLE (purple cabbage, onion, carrots, cauliflower)
BROWN & WHITE (cauliflower, turnips, garlic, onions, mushrooms [steamed], potatoes [steamed])
Guide for salads:
Some nutritionists recommend eating a salad a day with at least 3 or 4 different colors (red, green, and orange, for example) with 5 to 7 varieties for eye health and overall health.
* Filtered water: For best results, avoid filters treated with silver which can leach into the treated water
In regard to the meaning of the word “Shabbat” in the title:
Shabbat is a day of rest which begins at sundown Friday and concludes at sundown on Saturday. This follows the format of the Biblical creation week in Genesis 1:1-31 through 2:1-13: …”So there was evening and there was morning—one day.” God the Creator modeled Shabbat (Sabbath) by resting on the 7th day. Indeed, there are many benefits in our spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health by following the Creator’s example of rest as part of an optimum healthy lifestyle for vitality and longevity.

Artwork notes:
The "Fine Art America" watermark in the full resolution preview will not show in the final print/product purchased.
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ ב ס " ד ] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
