Description

A study in contrasts:: bright light and obscure shadows play peekaboo; burnt umber hues dance among a palette of majestic greens; a delicate wisp of a tree meanders softly toward sunlight against the backdrop of stately redwoods. Nowhere have I seen the grandeur of God's creativity so eloquently expressed as while walking in a forest.

This photo was taken deep in the forest at Muir Woods National Monument, which is home to one of the last remaining strands of old-growth coastal redwoods in the world with an average age of 700 years and a height of up to 258 feet.

The park was established in 1908, and in the year of its centennial (2008), it was listed as an historic district in the National Register of Historic Places.
