Description
A pilgrimage to Israel would not be complete without a baptism in the famed Jordan River.
One of the highlights of my life was being baptized in these sacred waters. A life-transformative experience indeed. What a privilege and honor to commemorate my precious Savior’s death, burial and resurrection unto NEW LIFE in Christ.
Pictured is a fraction of the 900+ people in my tour group at Yardenit Baptismal Site in northern Israel, near the southwest shore of the Sea of Galilee where the lake flows into the Jordan River. Each year, over a half million pilgrims from around the world come here to be baptized or to renew their baptism vows and to be part of the local community of followers of Yeshua Jesus. This photo was taken in November 2009 during my parents’ pilgrimage to the Holy Land when they celebrated their 50th anniversary.
The panels seen in the background are part of the Wall of New Life. Each panel contains ceramic tiles hand painted by the gifted Armenian artist Hagop Antreassian, a resident of the Old City district of Jerusalem, Israel. The panels are displayed throughout the grounds and are written in over 80 languages and dialects featuring the Scripture from Mark 1:9-11:
“It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, 'You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'”

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "To God alone be the glory".
