Description
A great egret (Ardea alba) strikes a majestic pose as it comes in for a landing while foraging for food near San Francisco Bay.
This largest member of the egret family pleasantly surprised me by coming within close range for a dramatic portrait.
Great egrets are found in temperate regions of the world, including many parts of North America and southern Europe. Like their smaller cousin, the snowy egret, they were hunted almost to extinction for their showy breeding plumage which were fashionable in the 19th century. Through conservation efforts, these majestic and stunning birds have made a comeback in their population for millions of people to admire and conserve.
"Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your Father in heaven feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Matthew 6:26, Tree of Life Bible

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
