Description
A flock of brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) glides effortlessly in close formation a few feet above San Francisco Bay on a very windy day at Point Cavallo, Fort Baker, near the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, California.
This photo was taken while standing on a bluff overlooking the bay as they flew by, giving a unique perspective of being at a higher vantage point in relation to the birds.
At one time on the endangered species list, brown pelicans have rebounded in population after the banning of the DDT pesticide. These majestic and fun-to-watch birds are found along both coasts of North America and Central America.
Of all the birds I've observed, they are truly one of the most elegant in flight!

Artwork notes::
I named this artwork “Grace Over The Bay” to emphasize not only the beauty of pelicans in flight, but also to point to the number five as representing God’s grace and His blessings over the land and water.
Another view of brown pelicans is seen in my other photo entitled, “Pelicans Over San Francisco Bay”.
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
