Description
As I write this in May of 2019, it is the day before my dear Mama Cheryl’s very first birthday in heaven.
Fresh waves of grief gently billow over my heart since her absence.
Yet, I am continually amazed at how God the magnificent Creator knows the need of my heart and addresses that in the most creative ways in nature.
At just the right moment, my precious Heavenly Father sent another painted lady butterfly while I was taking pictures of flowers, this time in Oakland, California ~ the same city where Mom's memorial service was held six months earlier. (The other painted lady butterfly sighting was at Point Reyes National Seashore, featured in my butterfly gallery.)
This was God’s second winged love note in 11 days. Having two butterfly visits this close together has never happened to me before.
In fact, prior to this month, the last time I was able to take a photo of a butterfly was over 3-1/2 years ago.
Interestingly, Mom’s Celebration of Life homegoing program in November 2018 featured butterflies as the design theme.
The Master of the universe cares about every detail of our lives, even having the very hairs on our heads numbered (see Matthew 10:30; Luke 12:7).
He truly knows the needs of the heart and meets those needs with impeccable timing.
I pray the Heavenly Father’s peace and comfort particularly for those who have lost loved ones. May you feel His comforting embrace.
Pictured: A painted lady butterfly (Vanessa cardui) alights on vibrant blossoms of an ice plant succulent (Delosperma cooperi) in landscaping at a church parking lot in Oakland, California.

For those going through the grieving process, it helps to have someone come alongside who understands and supports.
GriefShare is a support group that meets throughout the U.S. I have found it helped me to cope with the profound grief I experienced after my dear Mother Cheryl's homegoing.

Artwork notes::
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
