Description
A fawn makes a running leap toward the camera as I took this action photo on a beautiful spring afternoon in my front yard in April 2018. It came right up to my knee, greeting me as if one of the family. Though it was a very precious moment, I gently backed away, being careful not to transfer my scent out of concern its mother might reject the fawn. An important reminder to keep wildlife wild.
The Columbian blacktail deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) is one of approximately ten recognized subspecies of the mule deer, and is commonly seen in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its range extends from Northern California to the Pacific Northwest and into British Columbia, Canada.
The 300 spots on the fawn's spring coat provide effective camouflage while it beds down in a hidden area, waiting for its mother as she grazes nearby.
This treasured encounter with one of God’s creatures was like a love note from Him, and a reminder of His love sustaining me while I was caring for a loved one who was recuperating from a serious illness.
May we take time each cherished day to pause and reflect on the goodness of the Creator.
Thank you, Abba Father, for Your creation that gives us a refreshing -- and joyful -- break from the intensity of life.
"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God." (Psalm 42:2, Tree of Life Bible)

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ ב ס " ד ] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "To God alone be the glory."
