Artist's Description

Hundreds of convergent lady beetles (Hippodamia convergens) a.k.a. "ladybugs" gather on horsetail plants in Muir Woods National Monument near Mill Valley, California in the San Francisco Bay Area.

They migrate from the warmer Central Valley in the state to escape the heat and begin their hibernation during the cool summer months among the coastal redwoods, gathering in large numbers to conserve energy and warmth. They overwinter here before flying back next spring to complete their life cycle.

To assist with their travels, these ladybugs will reach an altitude of a mile or more in the sky to catch the wind to carry them to their destination up to 100 or more miles away.

The more I study nature, the more I realize there is a Creator who instills each of these creatures with the intuition to survive.

"ADONAI, how countless are Your works! In wisdom You made them all - the earth is full of Your creatures." Psalm 105:24, Tree of Life Bible
