Description
With majestic splendor, Coffee Pot Rock in Sedona, Arizona stands out prominently in the Thunder Mountain red rock formation, bathed in the late summer afternoon sun. I took this photo in September 2013 while attending a conference honoring Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.
According to Wikipedia, the city was named after Sedona Arabella Miller Schnebly (1877-1950), wife of Theodore Carlton Schnebly, the city's first postmaster. Sedona was known for her hospitality and industriousness.
It is estimated that the city's first inhabitants arrived about 8,000 B.C. Over the millennia, various First Nations Native American people groups made this area their home, each contributing their rich cultural heritage.
Sedona is internationally known for its spectacular red sandstone formations of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona, which extends from here to the Grand Canyon to the north.
The city has been awarded the No. 1 spot in "The 10 Most Beautiful Places in America" list by USA Weekend.
Sedona's majestic beauty in its stately rock formations inspire awe and wonderment of their creation. Psalm 18:2 comes to mind:: "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower" (KJV). A comforting thought indeed.

Artwork notes::
I added an HDR effect to my original photo, to bring out the rich colors and details of this amazing landscape.
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
