Description
Ancient artifacts are on display in the Biblical city of Capernaum, Israel where Yeshua Jesus based His ministry near the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee.
In the foreground, to the left is a mill for crushing olives with a catch basin for the oil. On the right is an olive oil press made of basaltic rock. I understand this can also be used to grind grains into flour.
The crushing of the olives is a type and shadow of the suffering which the Sacrificial Lamb of God would endure on the Cross for our healing and eternal redemption when we receive His perfect gift of eternal life through the Heavenly Father's only begotten Son, Yeshua Jesus:
“But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities. The chastisement for our shalom [peace] was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
It was an amazing experience to walk in Capernaum where my Savior preached in the synagogue and performed miracles such as healing Peter’s mother-in-law (Luke 4:38-39); miraculously restoring health to the centurion’s servant (Luke 7:1-10); and healing the paralytic lowered by friends through the roof to reach Jesus (Mark 2:1-12).
This scene was photographed in November 2009 during my family’s Holy Land pilgrimage, when Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th Anniversary. It was truly the trip of a lifetime to visit the very places about which I’ve read in the Bible, and to see them come alive with transforming power and majesty. The peace I felt while walking in Israel is unmatched, unlike anywhere else I've experienced.
A gentle painterly effect and separate HDR effect were both applied to my original photograph using the latest digital tools in June 2022.

"Brian, what an amazing scene of this historic city where Jesus preached and healed people! It takes my breath away just to read your description and look at this scene. I am so happy you were able to walk here, in this holy city with your parents and knowing Jesus was by your side along the way. What a dream come true for you!"

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "To God alone be the glory".
