Description
A pair of black swans (Cygnus atratus) glide gracefully on a pond near Napa, California. I saw these beauties when I stopped at a place to ask for directions to detour around a massive traffic backup.
This distinctive waterbird is native to the wetlands of Australia, spreading to New Zealand, and has been introduced to many parts of the world as an ornamental bird beginning in the 1800s. Its worldwide population is currently estimated at 500,000 individuals.
These large waterfowl measure up to 4.5 feet (1.4 meters) in length and have a stunning wingspan of up to 6.5 feet (2 meters), showing their striking black and white feathers when in flight. The graceful neck of the black swan is considered the longest of any swan.
This is my first time seeing these majestic creatures up close. They are truly a marvelous sight to behold. I am grateful to God for directing me to this place.... If it weren't for the massive traffic jam, I would have missed out. Truly, the Lord works things out for our good, when we see the "beauty" in every situation.
"Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your Father in heaven feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Matthew 6:26, Tree of Life Bible
