A great egret (Ardea alba) prepares for a majestic landing, showing its intricate and beautiful feather patterns in the afternoon sun.
This photo was taken in February 2016 at a wildlife refuge near San Francisco Bay.
Watching the beauty of God's creation reminds me of His great love... creating all this for our enjoyment and stewardship.

The great egret, like its smaller cousin, the snowy egret, was hunted almost to extinction for its showy plumage in the 19th century. Thanks to conservation efforts beginning in the 20th century, these majestic birds are once again a common and beautiful sight among coastal wetlands in the United States and Central America and South America for millions of people to admire -- and conserve for future generations.
