An absolutely beautiful red Gerbera Daisy was presented to my Mom on Mother's Day at church, May 8th, 2016.
This majestic and stunning plant, grown as a perennial in warmer climates, is related to sunflowers, chrysanthemums, dahlias, marigolds and zinnias in the large and diverse Asteraceae plant family.
The Gerbera daisy was named in honor of Traugott Gerber, 18th-century German botanist and medical doctor.
It is native to the tropical areas of South America, Africa and Asia, and it is the fifth most popular cut flower worldwide, after the rose, carnation, chrysanthemum and tulip.
