Description
A stunning Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) visits the backyard feeder in the San Francisco Bay Area during the evening hours, its iridescent gorget (throat feathers) illuminated by the setting sun.
Anna's hummingbird is the most common hummingbird along the western coast of North America. Once confined to Baja California and Southern California, they have expanded their territory northward throughout the western United States and into Canada, thanks to the extensive planting of exotic flowering shrubs and trees in coastal and inland residential areas, providing nectar for these flying jewels.
The more I study nature, the more proof I witness there is a loving God Who created all this beauty.

Hi Brian: After reading your comments posted on my elks I had to revisit your fantastic site. Deb is not here at the moment but I'll make sure she sees this GORGEOUS hummer as we both love hummers. Fact is, we keep about 12 hummingbird feeders hanging around our backyard from early Spring until Winter. Now back to your image. It is another "10". You have done something I have found very hard to do, which is to photograph one in flight. And, not just in flight but to photograph a sharp, detailed and beautiful image of this hummer in flight. Brian, yesterday while working in Auburn, Old Town Gallery (an artist co-op) a man was looking for a photo or a painting that captured the remarkable energy of a humming bird . . . we could not find one like this with the blurr of the wings.
